The first version is complicated because it contains every fear the builder had. Simplifying means deciding which fears were unfounded, and that requires evidence, which requires shipping.
In removals. Every simplification is a deletion of something that took effort, and deletion feels like waste even when it is the work.
Because complexity is transferred to the buyer. Every choice you leave in the product is a decision they now have to make, and decisions delay purchases.
Add only what a specific failure requires. Complexity that arrives without a corresponding failure is decoration with a maintenance cost.
