Column · unit economics dollar
Take the price. Subtract the payment processor's percentage and fixed fee. Subtract the cost of support, including the emails that arrive after the sale. Subtract the cost of the refunds.
At one dollar, the fixed fee can consume the entire margin. That is not a reason to avoid the price; it is a reason to know it.
Measuring relevance with the least possible friction. A dollar is low enough that the decision is about wanting the thing rather than about budgeting for it.
When volume creates support load. One dollar does not pay for a conversation, and a product that generates conversations at one dollar is a product with a delivery problem disguised as a price problem.
Keep the cheap product self-serve and instant. The moment it requires a human, the economics invert and the instrument stops measuring what you wanted it to measure.
